Taking Care of Mexico and the World
Solaris Hotels17/05/2017Today, May 17th, we celebrate World Recycling Day.
Did you know that recycling is a process by which waste is converted into new products?
Recycling prevents the disuse of potentially useful materials, reduces water and air pollution, and reduces the consumption of raw materials and energy. It is a key component for waste reduction.
In Mexico, 70% of waste is deposited in landfills (a place intended for the final disposal of trash) and 30% in ravines, open land, and rivers.
The Metropolitan Area throws away more than 20 thousand tons a day, making it the 5th place globally with the most waste.
Because our beautiful hotels are located in stunning destinations (Cancun and San Jose del Cabo), we have some data below regarding pollution and the care that must be taken on these magical beaches.
The main cause of pollution on Mexican beaches is the drainage system that dumps its sewage directly into the sea. Another cause is the misuse of our beautiful beaches by local people and tourists.
There are many species in danger of extinction due to pollution, such as: the sea turtle, the leatherback turtle, algae (the main organism in the marine food chain), the vaquita, and whales.
To continue taking care of our destinations, we present a list of rules and recommendations:
DO NOT litter. Animals see aluminum cans as a shelter and end up getting hurt or cut; likewise, they ingest plastic or get tangled in it.
DO NOT take any flora or fauna from the area, much less take species in danger of extinction.
DO NOT feed any wild animal.
Try to rinse yourself with water before entering the sea.
Use biodegradable sunscreen or tanning lotion.
At Hoteles Solaris de Mexico, we have several points that contribute to the environment, among which we include:
NO to the use of STRAWS, as these are made of polypropylene, a plastic that is not completely biodegradable and/or recyclable.
NO to the use of BALLOONS for events, since when they burst, they fall into the sea and are mistaken for jellyfish; several animals ingest them, becoming poisoned and leading to their death.
AVOID wasting water by washing towels DAILY.
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, but has had humans for 140,000 years. In perspective, let's say that the 4.5 billion years are a full day, meaning 24 hours, and the total time humans have been here is only 3 SECONDS.
AND LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE DONE.
We call ourselves HOMOSAPIENS, which means “wise man.”
BUT ARE WE REALLY WISE?
We split the atom and created great machines to travel the universe and find new homes, but with that same atom, we created nuclear wars with which we destroy the home we have now.
THAT IS NOT WISE!
When intelligence speaks, wisdom listens. We DO NOT listen to the cries of Mother Nature and we DO NOT see the help she needs.
WISDOM KNOWS THAT EVERY ACTION HAS A REACTION!
Now we have stronger rains, more droughts, hurricanes, and forest fires, which means there is also more pollution, more carbon, and more deforestation. We have increased animal extinction. It is said that within 10 to 100 years, we will no longer have: LIONS, RHINOS, TIGERS, GORILLAS, POLAR BEARS.
ALL THAT IN 3 SECONDS!
Species that have been on Earth longer than us will disappear because of us in just 3 seconds.
WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING... We are 1 in a million, we are perfectly positioned so that the Sun does not burn us and the Earth does not freeze.
WE ARE RIGHT WHERE WE NEED TO BE!
Each species is genetically connected, and this must be recognized before it is too late.
The real crisis is not because of GLOBAL WARMING, nor ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION, much less ANIMAL AGRICULTURE… IT IS US!
It is our job to take care of Mother Nature from those who do not want to see her beauty. To make the effort all together so that we can reach the 4th SECOND!
