Mexico and the richness of its folklore
Trips22/08/2017Visiting Mexico is an experience full of flavors, sounds, stories, and wonderful images; all of this is part of what we call folklore in a country.
Dance and music are the best-known forms of folklore in Mexico, so striking that we have been recognized around the world for our dance, but folklore is definitely much more than that.
Folklore refers to handicrafts, dances, jokes, customs, clothing, tales, stories, legends, music, proverbs, dishes, and more, common to a specific population, including the traditions of said culture.
It is what gives meaning to a population, and it is considered today as a branch of Social Sciences, with William Thoms being the first to define and assign a term to these studies in August 1846, basing it on the English terms "folk," which means people, and "lore," referring to learning or knowledge.
When you are in Mexico and you meet its people, travel through its surroundings, and enjoy the food and art, that is when you get to know the soul of this beautiful country; that is when you get to know its folklore. It is the result of our past and all its eras, everything that has made us the Mexicans we are and how we live. The indigenous, Spanish, and mestizo ancestry, and all the languages spoken in Mexico, paved the way for an identity full of colors.
In 1960, UNESCO designated August 22nd of each year as "World Folklore Day," and in this way, we celebrate an identity to which, as a 100% Mexican company, we feel proud to belong.
