Cabo Pulmo, the aquarium of the world
Trips07/04/2018Are you looking for something truly impressive?
Well, you probably know that in Los Cabos you can see whales at a certain time of the year or that you can visit the arch and see an incredible sunset, but have you ever heard of Cabo Pulmo?
Cabo Pulmo is a national marine park on the east coast of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, spanning the distance between Pulmo Point and Los Frailes Cape, approximately 100 kilometers north of Cabo San Lucas in the Gulf of California.
A short trip away from our hotel, you can find the majesty of what the famous explorer Jacques Cousteau called "The Aquarium of the World."
In addition, Cabo Pulmo is home to the oldest of the three coral reefs on the west coast of North America.
Estimated to be 20,000 years old, it is the northernmost coral reef in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It has a series of hard coral fingers on top of rocky outcrops parallel to the coast, occurring progressively in deeper waters offshore.
The area was designated a national park in 1995, a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005, and a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2008.
